Starting July 16,2006 the USMLE Step 2 Committee has raised performance levels in order to pass the step 2 CS. The USMLE step 2 committee monitors and sets the standards for step 2CK and Step 2CS examinations. The initial standard for passing the CS was set in November, 2004. After close monitoring of CS cumulative data and review of CS standards, the decision was made to increase the standards of two of the three components of the CS. The two subcomponents are the integrated clinical encounter (ICE) and Communication and Interpersonal Skills (CIS). There will be no change of the third component which is the Spoken English Proficiency (SEP) portion. The new passing requirements will be applied to those who take the Step 2 CS taken on July 16, 2006 and after.
