Nearly all residency programs have minimum USMLE scores and other requirements for IMGs. Some programs only accept IMGs who have USMLE scores >200 and require 12 months of hands-on US clinical experience. Other residency programs have >90% IMGs, allowing for >3 attempts to pass USMLE steps, and offer pre-Matches. Many US residency programs quickly dismiss those IMGs without visas while the others sponsor both J-1/H-1b. Many residencies also offer prematch position, a dream to every candidate!!!
Make sure you choose the right program. I currently have the internal medicine and psychiatry list of IMG-friendly hospitals, just updated for 2005 appl season, including minimum scores, USCE, grad date cutoff, current number of IMGs in the program, programs which offer prematches or not, other special requirements.
It took me a lot of time to make the lists. I can send them to you for an extremely low price, compared to other sites, offering most of the times less information...only 19.99 for IM and 14.99 for Psychiatry.
